Lonnie Burgess

Lonnie “Kent” Burgess, age 72 of 24082 Barbee’s Grove Road, Oakboro, NC 28129, passed away on April 09, 2010 at his home. The family will receive friends Sunday, April 11 from 12:30 to 2:00 at Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle. At other times the family will meet at the home. Funeral service will be Sunday, April 11 at 2 pm at Hartsell Funeral Home’s Lefler Memorial Chapel. Chip Alsobrooks will officiate and burial will be in Smith’s Grove Cemetery, Oakboro. Military honors will be conducted by Stanly County DAV, Chapter 12. Born in Stanly County on May 16, 1937, he was a son of the late Lonnie Richard Burgess and the late Dorothy Mae Tucker Burgess. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Ellen Burgess. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Elizabeth Crisco Burgess of the home; sons, Bryon Burgess, Brent Burgess and Trent Burgess all of Concord; brothers, Hoyle Burgess and Doug Burgess both of Oakboro; sisters, Lois Strickland of Orangeburg, SC, Odene Allen of Thomasville, NC and Jeannette Huneycutt of Albemarle. NC. He was a veteran of the US Army. He was a retired contractor for Doug Burgess Builders of Oakboro. He was a Boy Scout leader and a member of Woodmen of the World. He enjoyed basketball, NASCAR and watching sports. He was caretaker at Smith’s Grove Cemetery.
