Lonnie Whitley

Lonnie Wayne Whitley, 73, of Midland, passed away Thursday, June 3, 2010 at his home. Mr. Whitley was born January 15, 1937, in Stanly County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie Alexander Whitley and Ila Mae Connell Whitley; brother, Ronnie Whitley; and sister, Lucille Overcash. He was a veteran of the Army. He spent most of his life working with sheet metal and was a farmer. The graveside service will be Sunday, June 6, 4:00 p.m., at First Baptist Church of Midland officiated by Rev. Tom Gibbs. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Merle Drake Whitley of the home; sons, Wayne A. Whitley and wife, Claudia and Bo Whitley and wife, Tricia; daughters, Renee Sides and husband, Mike, Robin McKenzie and husband, Rick, Meranda Whitley; brothers, Morris Whitley, Arlie Whitley, Aubrey Whitley; sisters, Minnie Baucom and Kay Havens; grandchildren, Kelsey and Hayley Whitley, Caleb and Ethan Sides, and Nicole and Jonathan McKenzie.
