Lorene Caudle Ledford

Lorene Caudle Ledford of Midland passed away peacefully at home on September 29th, 2023. Lorene was the last surviving child of Dallas and Essie Long Caudle. She was preceded in death by her husband Gus Ledford and by her siblings: Sylvia Caudle Maness, Evans Long Caudle and Edwin Wayne Caudle. Lorene is survived by her devoted daughter Deborah Lorene Black (David) and her beloved son John Edwin Ledford (Susan), and grandchildren Kristen Lorene Black, Lauren Joy Sheldon (April), and Carson Garrett Ledford. She is also survived by her many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly and always felt safe in her presence. 

While Lorene had many happy days in her life, she also gracefully endured life’s storms. Her husband Gus Ledford was killed in 1980 by a drunk driver. She also tragically lost her beloved grandson, K9 Officer Jordan Sheldon, whose life was taken in the line of duty in 2019. Lorene was a devout Christian known for her strong faith which enabled her to withstand these tragedies. 

Lorene has been affectionately known as Meme since her first grandchild, Kristen, was born. Her children and grandchildren were her greatest joy. She will be remembered by friends and family, near and far, as the consummate mother. Her kindness, goodness, grace, and giving spirit have impacted countless people throughout her lifetime. 

Lorene was a renowned cook, bestowing her friends, family, and guests with many delicious meals in her beautiful home. She had a gift for selecting furniture, fine antiques, and decor. There was never a more thoughtful person - Lorene remembered every occasion with a note or call. Lorene put the same thought into her personal appearance that she put into those she loved - she was always elegantly and immaculately dressed.

The celebration of life service will be Saturday October 7th at 12:00 PM at Bethel Church in Midland. The family will greet friends after the service. 

The family wishes to thank all of those that loved and cared for Lorene throughout her life. May her memory and legacy forever be carried within us all.
