Loretta Carpenter

Loretta Evelyn Carpenter, age 83, of Kannapolis, passed away unexpected Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast. Mrs. Carpenter was born March 23, 1930 in Kannapolis to the late Clarence Dewitt Hilburn and Mary Alice Hilburn. In addition to her parents she is also preceded in death by her husbands, Jack Childers, Blaine Whittington, and William Carpenter; one son, Jack Childers, Jr. and one grandson, Jack Childers III. The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord on Friday, October 25, 2013 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm. There will be no funeral service. She was a former employee of the A & P Offices in Charlotte, and later in Cannon Mills and Fieldcrest Cannon. Loretta is survived by one daughter, Alice Childers Greene and husband Dean of Concord; one granddaughter, Neda Smith of Salisbury; three great grandchildren; stepdaughter, Melissa Jeanne Heustess and husband Tommy of Kannapolis; stepson, Pete Whittington of Salisbury; three sisters, Doris Woodard and husband Howard of Kannapolis, Bobbie Jean Campbell of Delray Beach, FL, Phyllis Hill and husband Skipper of Miami, FL and numerous nieces and nephews.
