Louise Smith Ward, 88 years of age, of Albemarle, passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2016, at Stanly Manor.
Mrs.Ward was born June 2, 1928, in Guilford County to the late Leopold Derositte Smith and Maggie Allred Smith. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Ward.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM, Wednesday, November 16, 2016, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. The funeral service will be on Thursday, November 17, 2016, at 2:00 PM at Badin United Methodist Church at 18 Hickory Street in Badin officiated by Rev. Wes Judy. Burial will follow at the Fairview Memorial Park at 1425 East Main Street, Albemarle.
Louise began playing with The Melody Masters Swing Band, at the Sedgefield Country Club, and several bands in Greensboro along with the Greensboro Symphony in the 40's. The most rewarding was serving as organist at Badin United Methodist Church from the mid 70's. Louise was a charter member of the Stanly County Chorale and Singing Americans of Stanly County.
Survivors include: daughters, Sandra Burris and husband Keith of New London, Rhonda Thompson of Little River, SC, and Karen Chapman and husband Randy of Bostic; grandchildren, Carrie Burris of Albemarle, Breanne Burris Marshburn and husband Mike of Locust, Zachary Chapman of Washington, DC, and Megan Chapman Turner and husband Michael of Hollis; great-granddaughters, Sydney Louise Couick and Braelyn Elise Couick.
