Loyd "Buck" Simpson, 85 years of age, of Locust, passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at his home in Locust.
Loyd was born February 12, 1930 in Mecklenburg County to the late Charles Calvin Simpson and the late Letha Mae Tucker Simpson. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Charles and Frank Simpson; sisters, Brenda Hitchcock, Margaret Hill, and Josephine Kizer; and grandson, Trevor Simpson.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM, Friday, September 25, 2015 at Love's Grove UMC, 4360 Polk Ford Road, Stanfield. The funeral service officiated by Rev. Jim White will follow at 3:00 PM. Burial will be in the church cemetery with full military rites being conducted by Seymour Johnson AFB Honor Guard.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary B. Simpson of Locust; daughter, Jamie Mills of Locust; son, Loyd (Sheila) Simpson, Jr. of Indian Trail, twin sister, Louise (Homer) Blackwelder of Midland; grandchildren, Abby Mills, Casey (Jordan) Varela, and Ethan Simpson; and great-grandson, Landon Varela.
Loyd was a 20 year veteran of the US Air Force serving as a medic. After retiring from the service he was a supervisor in the shipping department at Fairmont Mill in Mt. Pleasant and Willis Hosiery in Concord, and he also worked as a seasonal ticket stubber at Lowes Motor Speedway in Concord.
Loyd took great pleasure in gardening, cooking, traveling, and spending time with his family. He was known to those he grew up with as "Buck" and to his children and grandchildren as "Pop".
Memorials may be made to Charity of Donor's choice.
