Lucille Cody Nance of 20283 NC 73 Hwy. in Albemarle, died at her son’s home on September 30, 2011, after a two-year battle with multiple myeloma. She was born at her parents’ home December 19, 1919 in Albemarle, the daughter of the late Pierce Monroe and Grace Hatley Cody. She graduated from Millingport High School in 1939 where she was the captain of the state-winning girls’ basketball team. She married James H. Nance, Sr. (Buck) April 4, 1942, and raised their two sons with him. Her career included working with her husband at his businesses, Stanly Electric Company and Albemarle Electric Supply. After his retirement, she worked at Belk in Albemarle. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, her brothers Rev. Ray Cody of Concord, NC, Wilbert (Bill) Cody of Albemarle, NC, and one sister, Myrtle Cody Allen of Georgia. Survivors include her two sons, James H. Nance, Jr. (Jim) and his wife Anne; Jeffrey Cody Nance and wife Cathy all of Albemarle; five grandchildren, Amie Nance Koporc of Roswell, GA., and Lt. Col. (retired) James H. Nance, III (Rusty) of Hope Mills, NC, Stacey L. Nance of Apex, NC, Brittany N. McGee of Salisbury, NC, and Jodie C. Nance of Albemarle, NC, and five great-grandchildren. She is survived by two sisters, Jewell Cody Medlin of Arlington, VA, and Mary Frances Cody Harris of Alexandria, VA. She also leaves two special friends, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Gubay of the Isle of Man, UK, where Lucille and her husband spent fourteen straight summers. Her funeral will be held Monday, October 3, 2011, 11:00 a.m. at Salem United Methodist Church 21007 NC 73 Hwy in Albemarle. The Rev. Jacqueline Tookey will officiate. Burial in the church cemetery will follow the service. The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home Sunday evening, October 2, 2011, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. At other times the family will be at the home of her son, Jim, at 16473 NC 73 Hwy.
