Lula Medlin

Lula Fitzgerald Hargett Ford Medlin, 97, of Marshville, passed away Saturday, November 27, 2021.

Lula was born January 14, 1924, in Matthews to the late Savannah Lee Hargett and the late Julia Josephine Hemby Hargett.  She was also preceded in death by her daughters, Brenda Ford and Donna Caneclides; husbands, William "Joe" Ford and Heath Ashley Medlin; sisters, Liza Howie, Julia Mae Wilson, and Mary Duncan; and brothers, Bill, Wyatt, and Lee Hargett.

Lula was a lifelong resident of Matthews, NC and a member of First Baptist Church of Matthews.  She went to Matthews School from first grade to graduation and earned a college scholarship however chose to marry her first love Joe Ford instead of attending college.  They began their family and ultimately, had 3 daughters before Joe’s death. She was lucky in love as she found the second love of her life and married Heath Medlin with whom she had 2 daughters.  She loved living in Matthews and was a familiar face to many as she served the ladies of Matthews as their Avon Representative for 40 years.  She loved to look beautiful and to help others look and feel beautiful as well.
Lula never met a stranger and loved people.  She loved talking to people and everyone she met would eventually call her a friend.  She lived the phrase, “If life gives you lemons, make lemonade”.  Her happy, positive demeanor made her the cool MawMaw of the community and her grandchildren and their friends loved visiting with her.  Her quick wit, funny stories and welcoming smile will always be remembered.
Survivors include daughter, Cathy (Chester) Weaver of Waxhaw, NC; daughter, Tammie (Tim) Boyd of Marshville, NC; daughter, Heather (Shane) Williams of Pageland, SC; grandchildren, Chet (Kristen) Weaver, Astrid Boyd, Samantha and Cody Williams, and Joshua, Heath, and Brenda Caneclides; four great-grandsons; and many nieces and nephews.

A private memorial service in celebration of Lula's life will be held at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland on Friday, December 3.
