Mr. Barbee, 91, died peacefully at home November 16, 2009 at home surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of 70 years Evelyn L. Barbee, his daughter Sue B. Morrow and husband David of Charlotte. A son Larry Barbee of Locust, who is survived by his wife Judy Barbee, also preceded him in death. He was the son of the late Joe and Emma Barbee and was also preceded in death by sisters, Lela Whitley, Leola Smith, and a brother JT Barbee. He is survived by six sisters: Nola Whitley, Ruth Teeter, Rella Huneycutt, Geneve Eudy, Gatha Whitley, Avinelle Whitley, and Billy Joe Barbee. MA was a devoted father, grandfather, and great grandfather who enjoyed taking all of them on trips âacross the creekâ to throw rocks across it. He had 5 grandchildren: Kristi Morrow Butler and husband John of Cary, NC, Jo Morrow of Peachtree City, GA, Sherri Barbee of Denver, NC, Beth Anne Aheron and husband Steve of Stoneville, NC, and Tanya Barbee of Locust, NC. Nine Great grandchildren: Carrie Butler Laughridge, Rachel Butler Hibbard, Evie Butler, Melea Butler, Joseph Morrow, Daniel Morrow, Caroline Morrow, Justice Aheron, Brandon Steele, Brittney Steele. A visitation will be held at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle on Wednesday November 18 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. A service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday November 19 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Oakboro where he was a member. Dr. Wayne Bennett and Rev. John M Butler will conduct it. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Stanly County or Pleasant Grove Baptist Church: Frog Pond Rd., Oakboro, NC. MA was a knitter at Wiscassett Hosiery Mill in Albemarle, Belvedere Hosiery in Charlotte, and retired from the sample department of Collins and Aikman in Albemarle. In retirement he assisted his son Larry in his horse business. They had many wonderful experiences traveling to horse shows across the country.
