Mac Burris

Mac Don Burris, 91 years of age, of Albemarle, passed away Thursday, May 14, 2015 at Bethany Woods Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Albemarle.

Mr. Burris was born February 17, 1924 in Stanly County to the late Ernest Lee Burris and Azzie Raye Morton . He was also preceded in death by his wife, Faye Morton Burris, and wife, Inez Cranford Burris; granddaughter, Donna Carol Leonard; step grandson, Clayton Charles Spradley; brothers, Boone Burris, Jay Van Burris and Ray Von Burris; and sisters, Helen Mann and Karla Wilhoit.

Mac Don manned a 40MM Anti aircraft gun on the USS Maryland battleship in the South Pacific theater during World War II while serving in the Navy and received several distinguished medals and ribbons. He worked as a fixer for Wiscassett Mills for 15 years following his military service. He was also known as the best small engine mechanic in Stanly County.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm, Saturday, May 16, 2015, at Mountain View Baptist Church, 44166 Mountain View Church Road in Albemarle. The funeral service will be on Saturday at 1:00 pm at Mountain View Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Don Crusenbury. Burial will follow at the Centerview Baptist Church Cemetery at 508 Northeast Connector, Albemarle.

Survivors include daughters, Jane Garris of Albemarle, Patty (Jimmy) Austin of Sanford and Diane (Clayton) Spradley of St. Matthews, SC; stepchildren, Dr. Glenn Eddie (Carolyn) Burris of Spartanburg, SC and Dr. Kelly (Brenda) Burris of Virginia Beach, VA; six grandchildren; eight step grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; nineteen step great grandchildren; three step great great grandchildren; sisters, Hazel Clontz and Joyce (Robert) Roland; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
