Mack Reade Eudy, 85, of Concord died at his residence early on Thursday morning, June 12, 2014 following an eight month battle with cancer. Military graveside rites will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, June 16th at Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery in Mint Hill, NC. Reverend James White, pastor of Love's Grove United Methodist Church in Stanfield will officiate. The Patriot Guard will also participate in the rites. A native of Cabarrus County, he was born November 8, 1928 and grew up in the Midland area. Son of the late Mack Eudy and Lillie Ellola Robinson Eudy, he was the second of their seven children. He was a 1947 graduate of Bethel High School and in 1948 joined the United States Air Force. His assignments included the Air Force Police and he was a small arms instructor, winning numerous awards in pistol matches. He retired in 1968 with honors as Master Sergeant with the 467th Combat Support Group in the Pacific. After leaving the service, he and his wife and four children moved from Amarillo, Texas back to his native Cabarrus County. Upon returning to North Carolina to settle, he and his family joined his home church, Clear Creek Baptist in Mecklenburg County, in May 1969. Very active at Clear Creek in many capacities he also started the first boy's baseball team in the 1970's. He and his family joined the First Assembly Worship Center in Concord April 7, 1985 where his membership remains. He and his wife were very involved in the church's Recreation Ministry. He also began the baseball program there. During his baseball coaching years, he was a positive influence on many boys and young men. He was owner of Reade Eudy and Associates, a firm that installs swimming pools and septic tanks. He will be remembered as a loving Dad and Grandpa and a man who loved spending time with his family and traveling. He had a special affection for his dog, Gigi. His wife of 40 years, Barbara Jane Wilkerson Eudy, preceded in death at age 59 on February 13, 1992. His second wife of 15 years, Mary Kathryne Furr Cooke Eudy, died at age 79 on November 7, 2008. In addition to his wives, and parents, he was preceded in death by three siblings, Roger Ellard Eudy, Clara Avery Eudy Phillips and Jimmie Lacey Eudy. Survivors include his widow, Carolyn Jean Love Eudy; four children, William Reade Eudy, Kimberly Gayle Eudy Patterson and Leslie Jo Eudy White all of Midland, and David Michael Eudy of Charlotte; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three siblings, Evan Walters Eudy of Mint Hill, Alice Olivia Eudy Lee of Charlotte and Janet Ellola Eudy Furr of Midland; two step-sons, James Greene and Perry Greene; four step-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law; eight nieces; ten nephews and their families. Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord is serving the Eudy family.
