Madelyn Carole Barbee Efird, 69 years of age, of Locust, passed away Sunday, March 11, 2012 at Presbyterian Hospital in Matthews. Ms. Efird was born June 10, 1942, in Stanly County to Erma Elizabeth Clark Barbee Furr of Locust and the late Hoyle Barbee. She was the regional coordinator for the North Carolina Public Schools. The family will receive friends from 6 – 9 p.m. Friday, March 16, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland. The funeral service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, with a 30 minute state prior to the service, at First Baptist Church of Locust, officiated by Dr. Kinney Wallace. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. At other times, the family will meet at her home in Locust. Survivors include her mother; her sons, Landon Efird of Mineral Springs and Russell Efird of Charlotte; her brothers, Dwight Barbee of Stanfield, Tommy Barbee of Bethel, and Randy Barbee of Fayetteville; and her granddaughters, Kassi, Hailey, and Aurora.
