Mai Moua, 98, of New London, NC passed away Sunday, September 11, 2022 at her home surrounded by those who loved her most.
She was an incredibly amazing, loving and gracious daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother.
Mai was born May 6, 1924 in Laos, to the late Mr. & Mrs. Chong Toua Moua. She was happily married for 50 years to Nao Toua Lee. After 1985 she immigrated to the United States with her family and started a new life where she was able to live the American Dream: watching her sons grow to learn and immerse themselves into the American culture. Mai enjoyed long walks in nature, gardening, watching Hmong movies, and telling stories from back home. She was able to live to see her great-grandchildren grow to become respectful young men and women.
Many knew Mai as a devoted grandmother who deeply appreciated and adored her family. To know her was to love her and she was loved by so many. She will be greatly missed, but the spirit of such a powerful woman as Mai will live on forever.
Survivors include sons, Ying Lee of Thailand, Kou Lee of New London, NC, and Chue Lee of Fresno, CA; as well as 19 grandchildren, 64 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren from all over.
The family will receive friends from 8:00 am, Friday, September 23, 2022 at Camp John J. Barnhardt until Sunday, September 25. The funeral service will be on Sunday at Camp John J. Barnhardt in New London. Burial will follow at Stanly Gardens of Memory located at 2001 East Main St., Albemarle, NC.
