Manuel Jack Hicks, 87, of Hemby Bridge, passed away peacefully in his home with his family by his side on Wednesday, October 9, 2024.
Manuel was born on December 1, 1936, in Catlettsburg, Kentucky to the late Rev. John H. and Minnie Rowe Hicks. He was also preceded in death by daughter Jennifer Hicks, and siblings James P. Hicks, Tom Hicks, Helen Lurch, Paul H. Hicks, Jolly Hicks, and Lena Hicks Evins.
Upon graduating from high school in 1954, Manuel served three and a half years in the United States Air Force. Following his service, he obtained his accounting degree from the University of Kentucky. Although an accountant by trade, Manuel always dreamed of being a cowboy, and he was able to enjoy the final years of his professional career as the ranch manager at Reata Ranch, just north of Dallas, Texas. He was an avid flea market shopper, collector of all things cast iron, and enjoyed participating in chuck wagon cooking and chili cookoffs.
Manuel is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Kitty Lou Collier Hicks; son, Robert Hicks and wife Stacy Hicks; daughter, Holly Hicks; son, Donald Hicks; granddaughters, Victoria Hicks, Hannah Hicks, Marissa Hicks, and Sallie Jean Hicks; sister, Ruby Bruce; as well as many special nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 1:30pm - 2:15pm at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland, NC. The funeral service will immediately follow officiated by Rev. Stephen Hicks. Burial will follow at the Hicks Family Cemetery.
