Margaret Maxine Miller Clayton, 91 years of age, of Richfield, passed away Monday, August 31, 2015 at her home.
Maxine was born March 15, 1924 in Stanly County to the late Pearl Eugene Miller, Sr. and Mamie Verta Ritchie Miller. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Elwood Clamon Clayton; brother, P.E. Miller, Jr.; and sisters, Evelyn Hill and Lucille Carter.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. The funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at Richfield Baptist Church, officiated by her grandson Rev. Rick Clayton. She will lie in state for 30 minutes prior to the service. The burial will follow at Richfield Cemetery. At other times, the family will be gathering at her home.
She is survived by her son, Dick (Hoopie) Clayton of Norwood; daughter, Jane (Oron) Huneycutt of Albemarle; five grandchildren, Rick (Donna) Clayton, Sam (Cindy) Clayton, Brandy (Brandon) Lowder, Ryan (Anissa) Huneycutt, Susan Arnold; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Maxine was a loving mother and grandmother. She always took care of everyone. Maxine had a green thumb, and enjoyed growing her flowers and doing yard work. Along with her husband, she was owner and operator of Clayton's Grocery Store in Richfield. The family would like to give a heart felt thank you to Jean Burleson for her loving and compassionate care.
