Margaret Cook McManus, 84 of Midland, passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast in Concord surrounded by her family. Mrs. McManus was born February 1, 1929 in Cabarrus County to the late James Howard Cook and Agnes Lavon Waters Cook . She was a graduate of Cannon High School in Kannapolis, class of 1947. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Coy Laban McManus. She was a totally committed helpmate. Her inspiring spirit was a true blessing and her love of her Lord and family was ever present. She retired from Southern Bell-South in 1982 where she held various managerial positions. She was a member of Telephone Pioneers of America. She was a charter member of United Love Baptist Church Midland, NC. She was an active member in Sunday School, Adult Choir, Women on Mission, and Golden Opportunities Senior Group. She was faithful in her service to various church committees. She was one of the beautiful strong and colorful threads that helped to bond her family together. Without exception Margaret walked her own path in life. One that was paved with her faith in God, the love of her family and friends. She accepted each of them on their own terms. She was a devoted mother, always looking out for their best interest, with hopes for her family to live good lives. With her humor, grace and love she taught them to live life to the fullest and not take one moment of their lives for granted. The family will receive friends at United Love Baptist Church on Friday, October 11, 2013 from 1 until 2 pm. Funeral services will follow at the church at 2 pm, officiated by Rev. Marvin Tyson . Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Survivors include her daughter, Sharon Cox and husband, Ron of Monroe; her son, David McManus and wife, Marsha of Banner Elk; four step-grandchildren, Katie Walker and husband, Drew, Susannah Maddox and husband, Richard, and Anna and Jamie Canterbury; sister, Janice Cook of Concord; and nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to United Love Baptist Church 11487 Flowes Store Road Midland, NC 28107. Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland is serving the McManus family.
