Marie Simpler
September 19, 1930 — July 22, 2016
Marie Smith Simpler, 85 years of age, of Albemarle, changed her residence to Heaven peacefully on Friday, July 22, 2016 at Carolinas ContinueCARE Hospital Pineville in Charlotte, surrounded by family and loved ones.
Marie was born September 19, 1930 in Lee County to the late William Harvey Smith and the late Esther Jane Sessoms Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Simpler, in 1998, and one son, William Neal McCormick.
Marie grew up in Sanford, NC where she graduated from Sanford High School. She worked as a telephone operator, and later as a civilian at Fort Bragg in the IBM room for several years. She then went on to her truest calling as a most beloved mother and homemaker. She had an extensive extended family that consisted of many who grew up in Stanly County and knew her as “Mama Marie”.
Known for her generous and loving nature, Marie delighted in helping others. She had a gracious spirit, and always saw the good in anyone she met. Talking, having visitors, and gardening brought her great joy. She was a blessing to anyone who knew her. She loved the Lord with all her heart and valued the support she received from her church family at First Assembly.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at Hartsell Funeral Home Albemarle. The funeral service will be on Thursday at 11:00 am at Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel in Albemarle, officiated by Pastors George Mullen and Joshua Modesette.
Survivors include her sister, Jonnie Guess of Spokane, WA; daughter, Stella Simpler and fiance, Jerry Beeson, of Mount Pleasant, NC; son, William Simpler and wife, Jennifer, of Oakboro; step son, Don Simpler of Bishopville, MD; grandchildren, Victor Bercher of Mount Pleasant, Kayla Simpler of Oakboro, Page McCormick of Lumberton, and two great-grandchildren.
