Marilyn Ferris

July 13, 1933 — August 26, 2015

Marilyn “JoAnne” Ferris, 82, of Pinebluff, NC passed away on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at Trinity Place in Albemarle. She had recently spent the last few months in Spring Arbor of Albemarle.
Friends and family are invited to the service for JoAnne on Friday, August 28 at 4:00 p.m. at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle. The family will greet and thank guests immediately following the service.
Ms. Ferris was born on July 13, 1933 in Attica, Indiana to the late Carroll Lester Wallace and the late Nell Blythe Harris. Her entire childhood was spent living in Attica where her father owned and operated a grocery store and also served two terms as Mayor. Her mother worked as a school teacher and a homemaker. Her brother, Robert Lee Wallace, also preceded her in death.
She is survived by her two loving children, son Michael Ferris of Albemarle and daughter Melissa Ferris of Houston, Texas, whom she loved both dearly. She is also survived by her very special grandson Evan and her daughter-in-law Marla, who were wonderful additions to her life and made her last few years a very special time for her.
Growing up, JoAnne and her brother Robert performed in numerous USO shows in the Midwest entertaining the troops in the wartime effort. She lived many years in Long Beach, CA where she married Jack Ferris. She and her family later moved to Southern Pines, NC. JoAnne found a very satisfying late career by helping the elderly remain active and engaged while working as the Senior’s Activities Coordinator for the Town of Aberdeen. Her greatest source of pride and joy was always her family and she loved them well. She was a great Grammie and mom. We will miss her terribly but know that she is in Heaven and free from any pain and we thank God for that.
Memorials may be made to Home of Hopes, 1816-B East Main Street, Albemarle, NC 28001, as serving the less fortunate and those in need was significant part of her childhood and family life.
Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle is serving the Ferris family.
