Marion Bernice Mullis Almond, 89 years of age of Albemarle, passed away Saturday, September 16, 2017.
Bernice was born June 5, 1928 in Union County to the late Otto Lane Mullis and the late Virgie Ellen Deese Mullis.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, J. D. Almond, Sr. in 1996 and two brothers, Don Mullis and Kermit Kendall Mullis, and two sisters, Nell Thompson and Barbara Garrett; and son-in-law, David N. Almond.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. The funeral service will be on Thursday, September 21, at 3:00 pm at Plyler Baptist Church, 25958 Austin Road, Albemarle, NC, officiated by Rev. Brian Franklin. A 30 minute state will be held prior to the service. Burial will follow at Plyler Baptist Church Cemetery.
Survivors include son, J. D. (Luan) Almond, Jr. of Gold Hill; daughters, Marion (Tommie) Blanchard of North Myrtle Beach, SC, Ellen (Roger) Hatley of Oakboro, DeLane (Gene) Carter of North Myrtle Beach, Ollie Annette Almond of Albemarle; two brothers, Landon Mullis of New London and Mac Mullis of Aquadale; one sister, Dolly Howard of Pineville; 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter.
Bernice was a lifetime member of Plyer Baptist Church and taught Sunday School for most of her life. She worked for many years at Richfield manufacturing as a seamstress and was well known for exceptional handiwork in everything she did. Her main passion was people and especially her family, whom she served selflessly. Those closest to her will always remember her amazing green thumb and biscuits. Let us "Give her the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates." - Proverbs 31:31.
