Marion Maurice Clarke, Jr. age 72 of 24762 Strand Drive, Albemarle passed away July 31, 2010 at Stanly Regional Medical Center, Albemarle. The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 4, 2010 from 10 to 11 at Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle. At other times the family will be at the home. Funeral service will be Wednesday at 11 at Hartsell Funeral Home’s Lefler Memorial Chapel. Rev. Marcy Reid-Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery. Born March 11, 1938 in Stanly County, NC, he was the son of the late Marion Maurice Clarke, Sr. and the late Daisy Gazelle “Zelle” Lowder Clarke. He was a science teacher in Cabarrus County Schools and a member of Grace Baptist Church, Albemarle. He was a charter member of the Sons of the American Revolution, Colson Mill Chapter. He loved water sports, foreign cars, rock and roll music and NASCAR. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Priscilla Lane Smith Clarke of the home; brother, John Stephen Clarke of Melbourne, Fla.; sisters, Gayle Hatley of Albemarle and Janice Whitley of Hickory; and numerous nieces and nephews.
