Marlene Stephenson-Browne, 84, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2025.
Marlene (Barbara) was born in Goed Fortuin, Guyana, to the late, Solomon & Sybil Stephenson. Her brother Joseph, sister Daphne, and nephew Winston Belgrave preceded her in death.
Marlene was raised in Mackenzie, Guyana, where she started her nursing career as a Nurse Midwife. She worked as a Nurse for several decades. She migrated to Brooklyn, NY, in the late 60s, determined to make a better life for her family. Her husband, Oswald, and her daughters joined her in NY shortly after.
She was an adventurer, to say the least, and Nursing allowed her to find work anywhere. With that, she lived and worked in many states throughout the US. One of her talents was the ability to set up her new home on the day of the move. You could not find any evidence that she had moved in the day before.
She was a very intelligent woman who loved to learn. Her daughter Colette often called her a career student. She loved watching Jeopardy and doing crosswords and logic puzzles. She was a stickler for proper grammar. She was strong and strong-willed and never wrong.
She is survived by Daughters, Colette & Sharon “Angela” Browne; Grandchildren, Jeshua & Kayla Browne; Sisters, Inez Boston, and Patricia Cuffy; Nieces, Sonya Boston, Suzanne Lukowsky (Peter, husband, Carter, Son), Dawn Scaff (Amber, daughter), and Allison Alleyne; Nephews, Michael Moore (wife Patricia, kids: Maya, Micaela, Mackenzie) Nigel Belgrave (wife Arlene, son Nigel Jr.) and a host of other relatives (Joan Pollard, Rita Ned, Julia Fox, and Dr. Judy Kobsar) and friends.
