Marshall Vernon Hatley, 92 years of age, of Oakboro, passed away Friday, September 12, 2014 at Stanly Regional Medical Center in Albemarle.
Vernon was born March 9, 1922 in Stanly County to the late Thomas Meredith Hatley and the late Sallie Smith Hatley. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Blanche Whitley Hatley; sisters, Florence L. Hatley, Joyce Huneycutt, Gladys H. Hill, and Carolyn H. Furr; and brothers, Ernest Rufus Hatley, Jack Sidney Hatley, and Marvin Hatley.
The graveside service will be at 1 pm on Monday, September 15, 2014 at Barbee's Grove Baptist Church cemetery officiated by Rev. Phillip Smith. Military honors will be conducted by the Stanly County DAV, Chapter 12. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall.
He is survived by his son, Steven M. Hatley and wife, Linda of Norwood; daughter, Vivian Austin and husband, Mike of Oakboro; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Vernon honorably served his country in the United States Army during WWII, and was a faithful member of Barbee's Grove Baptist Church.
