Martha Dean Baucom, 75 years of age of Monroe, passed away Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte after a long battle with lupus. Mrs. Baucom was born January 3, 1937 in Union County to the late Robert Bruce Baucom and Martha Lee Little Baucom. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Eugene Herman Baucom, in 2010; her brothers, Burvin Baucom and R. B. Baucom, Jr.; her sister, Betty Tomberlin; and an infant son. Martha was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was an active church member, a homemaker, and was a vital part of the family farm. The family will receive friends from 6:30 – 8:30 Tuesday, August 21 at Hartsell Funeral Home in Midland. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Zion United Methodist Church, 1521 Old Fish Road, Monroe, with a 30 minute state prior to the service. Rev. Mark Clontz and Rev. David McCauley will officiate. Burial will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park, 1901 Lancaster Avenue in Monroe. At other times, the family will meet at her home. Survivors include her sons, Milton Baucom and wife, Harriett, Kelvin Baucom and his wife, Cindy, and Randall Baucom; her daughters, Donna Thomas and her husband, Alan, and Paula Baucom; her grandchildren, Kyle Baucom and his wife, Jennifer, Kelly Baucom, Courtney Baucom, Bayden Baucom, Allison T. Parkhurst and her husband, Patrick, Brandon Thomas and his wife, Laura, Alecia T. Strawn and her husband, Pete, Brett Thomas, Ashley Thomas, Dylan Baucom, Makailia Baucom; and her great-grandchildren, Lauren E. Parkhurst, Madison Parkhurst, Landon Baucom, and Hayden Strawn; and her sister, Kay Black. Memorials may be made to Zion United Methodist Church, 1521 Old Fish Road, Monroe, NC 28110.
