Martha Currie

March 3, 1941 — August 2, 2021

On Monday, August 2, 2021, Martha Clara Currie, loving wife, and mother of five children, passed away at the age of 80.

Martha was born on March 3, 1941, in Queens NY, to the late Herbert P. and Clara (Totton) Brumme Sr.  She graduated from Andrew Jackson High School.  On July 20, 1963, Martha married the love of her life, the late James J. Currie Jr.  They raised three daughters, Janine of Mastic Beach, NY, Susan (George) Baudier and Janet (John) Gallagher, both of Charlotte, NC and two sons, James J. III (Deborah) of Concord, NC, and Steven of Bellport, NY.

After raising her children, Martha worked for Fenn, Wright, and Manson and Lincoln Finishing in Melville, NY before retiring in 2005 from the Stony Brook University health system in Stony Brook, NY.

After retiring, she left Medford, NY, and settled in Charlotte, NC to be near her cherished grandchildren, Delaney Baudier; Paul, Maxwell, and Amelia Konigsberg; and Ella Currie.  Her grandchildren provided her the most joy in life.

Martha enjoyed gardening, but only with the plants on the clearance rack at Lowes or Walmart. She was always successful in bringing these left-behinds back to life with tender loving care.  She applied that same care to the people in her life.  Known for her great sense of humor, she was always able to laugh at herself.  She treated everyone as a friend and was always quick to lend a hand.  Her home was always open to those in need.  Family meant everything to her.

Martha was preceded in death by her sister Theresa Morin, her brother Herbert P “Sonny” Brumme Jr., son-in-law George T. Baudier Jr., and brother-in-law, Joseph J. Murray Sr.

She is survived by her children, grandchildren, sister Dolores Murray of Brentwood, NY, brother Frederick Brumme of Charlotte, NC, brother-in-law Thomas R. (Rita) Currie Sr of Holtsville, NY, and sister-in-law Joanne Brumme of Port St. Lucie, Fl.  She is also survived by many cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm, Saturday, August 14, 2021, at Hartsell Funeral home in Harrisburg, NC. A burial service will be held at a later date at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Coram, NY.

Memorial donations can be made in her memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the American Kidney Fund.
