Martha McCray Sayers, 87, of Concord, passed away Thursday, February 20, 2025.
Martha was born December 17, 1937, in North Carolina to the late Hubert Francis (H. F.) McCray and the late Mary Frances Snyder. She was also preceded in death by her husband Thomas Garrett Sayers and her siblings Mary Louise Yarbrough, Hurley Franklin (H.F.) McCray Jr, John McCray, Hubert Rufus McCray, Dorothy Sue Sapp, and Henry Carroll McCray.
Survivors include son, Stephen Sellers (Jennifer) of Kannapolis, NC; grandchildren, Timothy Sellers and Kristina Kyles (William); step grandchildren Tyler Ashcraft (Itzyana) and Sara Yang (Tommy); great-grandchildren Elijah, Samuel, and Izabella; sister Margaret Brown; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Martha spent her life dedicated to serving the Lord and her family. She spent most of her career as a teacher in the public school system. She loved to read, do puzzles, go out with friends, teach her Sunday school class, and most of all spend time with her family. Her family remembers her as always serving others and caring for many during her lifetime.
She was a member of First Baptist Church Concord where she served in many capacities including the choir, teaching Sunday school, and served on several committees. Her faith was an integral part of who she was and it was evident in everything she did. She was honored for her work by her church with a brick on the WMU Walk of Faith.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at 3:00pm, at First Baptist Church Concord, officiated by Dr. Jim Collier and Pastor Aaron Edwards. There will be a reception following the service.
