Martha Poplin

January 13, 1951 — January 21, 2023

In the early morning hours of January 21, 2023, Martha Rae Hinson Poplin of Richfield, North Carolina, went Home to Jesus. She was born on January 13, 1951 to Martin Ray Hinson and Ethel Lucille Bowers Hinson and lived her entire life in Stanly County. She made her profession of faith in Jesus as her Savior as a young girl at Richfield Baptist Church.

After graduation from North Stanly High School, Martha married the love of her life, Roy Alvin Poplin, on April 26, 1970. They had two daughters, April and Heather, who brought much joy to their lives. Martha enjoyed her employment with Clayton Homes and had a diligent work ethic to complete every task with her very best effort. She and Alvin enjoyed gardening and canning their home-grown vegetables. Martha enjoyed cooking for her family and sharing meals with others. They loved taking vacations in the mountains and the annual White Lake FFA weekend with friends. It was a pleasure to live near good friends James and Betty Leonard and JD and Becky Ingram. They were active members of Paul’s Crossing Baptist Church where Martha enjoyed singing in the choir.

Martha was devoted to her family. She helped care for her parents as they aged. She and Alvin moved their church membership to Highland Baptist Church where they continued to worship and serve with their family. Even before her husband passed away in 2010, Martha’s health had begun to decline. A few years ago, she made the difficult decision to give up living independently and accept residency at Bethany Woods. There she made new friends. She served on the Bethany Woods Residents’ Council and brought needs to the attention of the administration. She was blessed with a wonderful roommate who became like a sister, Glenda Smith.

Martha will be remembered for loving good food, the Hallmark channel, and a good short haircut! She was comfortable holding a conversation with anyone. She was a take-charge person who would just get a job done.

Those left to cherish her memory are her beloved daughters April Poplin Kimrey (and husband Terry) and Heather Rae Poplin, her adored grandchildren Seth Kimrey (and wife Rebekah), Adam Kimrey, and Jada Poplin, and her delightful great-grandson Levi Roy Kimrey. She is also survived by her sister Sherry Hinson Elledge (and husband Larry) and brother Michael “Bud” Hinson (and wife Hazeline), nieces, nephews, and friends. The family thanks the staff at Bethany Woods for taking good care of Martha.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 26, 2023 at 3:00 pm at Highland Baptist Church of New London, officiated by Pastor Mark Lowe.  A burial will follow, Friday, January 27, 2023 at 10:00 am at Paul's Crossing Cemetery in Richfield NC.
