Martin Luther Pennington, age 90 of 32516 Pennington Road, Albemarle, passed away on Sunday, August 26, 2012 at Universal Healthcare - Concord. The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle on Wednesday, August 29 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM in the Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Rev. Tab Whitley. Burial will follow at the Stanly Gardens of Memory with military honors conducted by the Stanly County DAV, Chapter 12. At other times, the family will meet at his home. Martin Pennington was born in Stanly County on May 24, 1922, to the late John Fink Pennington and the late Maude E. Bowers Pennington. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Golden L. Pennington, Edward Pennington, and Raymond Pennington and Oswald Crowell Andrews; one sister, Mary Bell Byrd; and a son-in-law, Harold Crisco. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Ruby Virginia Carpenter Pennington; two daughters, Barbara Crisco and Vicky Eudy and her husband Dwight all of Albemarle; one grandson, Chad Eudy; one brother, Marshall Ray Andrews of Albemarle; two sisters, Jeanette Eudy and Kathleen Sides both of Albemarle. Martin was from a Christian home and was a Seven Day Adventist. Both his father, mother and a blood brother, Golden were of this faith. Martin’s fondest memories were instilled in him through the many years of his childhood. As a child, he was reared and lived on a farm. Later, he married his childhood sweetheart, Ruby Carpenter Pennington, on February 18, 1940. In 1944, he was inducted into the Navy for two years on an LST ship overseas. He served the officers aboard the ship and was a first class seaman. He was a painting contractor who took great pride in his work, painting and wall papering and pleasing his many customers. His professional work made him many friends, far and wide. He was a good father, a good provider and was known for his honesty and simple life. We will miss him, his sense of humor and being a wonderful friend. He will be in our hearts always and our memory forever.
