Marvin Edward Hinson, age 87 of Concord, NC passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at his home. The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord on Saturday, July 2, 2011 from 6pm until 8pm. A graveside service with military honors will be Sunday, July 3, 2011 at 2pm at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis with Rev. Pritchard officiating. At other times the family will meet at 656 Sylvan Street, Concord, NC. Mr. Hinson was born on August 18, 1923 to the late Edward Hinson and the late Amanda Austin Hinson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Mae Austin Hinson. Survivors include sons, Danny A. Hinson of Indian Trail, NC and Douglas Marvin Hinson of Weaverville, NC; one grandchild, Phillip Hinson. Mr. Hinson proudly served his country in the US Navy during WWII. He served in the European, Pacific, African, and Asiatic Theatres. He was also the recipient a Good Conduct Medal. He enjoyed being at home and VFW fellowship. He was a member of the VFW and was a past post commander. He was a former State Highway Patrolman in Union County and later served as a Deputy Sheriff. He was employed as a superintendent with Johnston Mills in Charlotte, NC. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
