Mary Lou Byrd Andrew, 88 years of age, of Albemarle, passed away peacefully in her sleep, Tuesday morning, August 9, 2016 in her home.

She was born October 16, 1927 in Moore County, NC to the late Walter Clyde and Margaret Keith Byrd. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Luther Andrew, Sr. and her son, Thomas Luther Andrew, Jr.

Mrs. Andrew was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many. She was a graduate of Albemarle High School and Catawba College. As one of the longest living members of First Presbyterian Church, she was active for many years serving as a teacher, deacon, and elder. An avid bridge player, golfer and reader, Mary Lou was a member of several clubs as well as the Hawthorne Garden Club.


The Memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at 11 AM at First Presbyterian Church-Albemarle, officiated by Rev. Elizabeth Ayscue. The family will receive friends after the service in the fellowship hall. A private burial will precede the service.

Surviving family members include her children: Mark (Kim) Andrew, Keith (Christine) Andrew; daughter in law, Fran Andrew; brother, Walter Keith (Ann) Byrd. Known to many of the younger generation as "Ma", she is survived by six grandchildren: Bo Andrew, Russ (Lynsey) Andrew, Stephen (Mallory) Andrew, Jason (Kellie) Andrew, Kate (Steve) Melone, and Ben Andrew; six great grandchildren: Ansley and Abram Andrew, Hamp and Banks Andrew, Nash Andrew and Drew Melone.
