Mary Barger Black, 93 years of age, of Concord, passed away Monday, November 7, 2016 at St. Andrews Living Center in Concord.
Mary was born September 13, 1923 in to the late Charles Jacob Barger and the late Roxie Kluttz Barger. She was also preceded in death by husband of 71 years, Homer Fess Black; daughter, Beverly Horton; grandson, Eric Horton; and great-grandson, David Halperin.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Thursday, November 10, 2016 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord. The funeral service will be Friday at 3:00 pm at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord Chapel, officiated by Rev. Debra Frye. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis.
Survivors include daughter, Marian (Tom) Little of Mooresville; daughter, Barbara Black of Kannapolis; four grandchildren, Lynn Goode, Roxanne (Brad) Stroud, Amy (Andrew) Giraldo, Laura (Ken) Halperin; six great-grandchildren, Kayla and Katherine Goode, Erin and Josey Stroud, Sara Halperin, and Aiden Giraldo; and son-in-law, Roger Horton of Concord.
Mary was the youngest of eight children and grew up in Faith, NC. She met her husband, H.F. Black, at Plant #1 in Kannapolis where they worked in the sheet department. They made their home on S. Union Street where they lived 66 years. Together they raised, loved, and cherished generations of children.
