Mary Burris

Mary Lovena Burris, age 80, of Albemarle, passed away on March 16, 2012 at CMC-Main, Charlotte. The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle on Sunday, March 18 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be held on Monday, March 19 at 2:00 PM, at First Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Roger Thomas. Burial will follow at Fairview Memorial Park. At other times, the family will meet at the home of her daughter, Carolyn Baucom, 1206 Autumn Lane, New London. She was born in Stanly County on April 28, 1931 to the late Cromer Etwell Efird and the late Rosetta Whitley Efird. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Edward Burris in 1994. She is survived by two sons, Keith E. Burris and his wife Sandra and Ron Burris and his wife Jan, all of New London; daughter, Carolyn Baucom and her husband Dan of New London; seven grandchildren, Carrie Couick, Breanne Marshburn, Christa Hager, Amelia Parah, Stephen Griffin, Staci Coble, Seth Burris and John Baucom; ten great-grandchildren; three sisters, Joan Talbert, Jewel Thompson and Evelyn Poplin, all of Albemarle; and special friend, Jan Nederveen. Mrs. Burris was a longtime member of First Baptist Church where she served as a member of the choir, the Joy Group and the Service Sunday School Class. Being a member of the Eastern Star, treasurer for the Hospital Auxiliary and decorating the Senior Center, were included in her many interests. She retired as Office Manager from Harris Teeter and was a loving mother and grandmother. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Music Fund, 202 N. Second Street, Albemarle, NC 28001. Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle is serving the Burris family.
