Mary Elizabeth Cuddy Fredenberg

Mary Elizabeth Cuddy Fredenberg, 88, of Concord, NC died on June 22, 2024 with family by her side. 

Mary was born in Syracuse, NY on November 6, 1935, to the late John Cuddy Sr. and Rosemone Hughes Cuddy. She graduated from Nazareth University in Rochester, NY with a nursing degree, then obtained her master's degree from the University of NC Charlotte.

She worked as a registered nurse in Syracuse, NY, and Charlotte, NC helping and healing many over the years. In addition to nursing, Mary spent many years doing bereavement counseling through Saint John Newman Catholic Church and was a Eucharistic Minister.

On May 7th, 1960, she married John R. Fredenberg and throughout their 58 years of marriage they faced many challenges, but their love and commitment made them an example of what strong and loving parents should look like. Together, John & Mary raised 12 children who benefited from their amazing example and have gone on to raise families of their own.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her only brother, John G. Cuddy.

She is survived by her children, John Fredenberg (Stacey), David Fredenberg (Sherry), Thomas Fredenberg (Yates), Nicole Knight (Eric), Mary Fredenberg, William Fredenberg (Michelle), Robert Fredenberg (Tracy), Elizabeth Fredenberg, Margaret Miller (Mark), Christine Jacobs (Jeffrey), Karen Bergmann (Matthew), and Theresa Funderburk. She is also survived by twenty-two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be from 6 - 8 pm on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at Hartsell Funeral Home, 12115 University City Blvd., Harrisburg, NC 28075. A funeral celebrating the life of Mary will be held on Friday, June 28, 2024, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 8451 Idlewild Rd, Charlotte, NC 28227 at 10 am. Friends and family may gather in the church's fellowship hall immediately following the mass. Entombment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 4601 Freedom Dr, Charlotte, NC 28208.

In place of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County or the Alzheimer’s Association.
