Mary Helms

Mary Chloe Howard Helms, 97 years of age, of Harrisburg, passed away Thursday, April 17, 2014 at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis.

Chloe was born November 24, 1916 in Union County. She was the last of eight children born to the late Samuel Blythe Howard and the late Nettie Joanna McRorie Howard.

She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Richard Dwight Helms in 2004; brothers, Vance and Stacy Howard; and sisters, Grace Rea, Jo Biggers, Effie Morris, Bobbie Boyce Mabe, and Dottie Howard.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm, Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at Roberta Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm in the church sanctuary officiated by Rev. Steve Pennington. The burial will be at the Ritch Cemetery on Indian Trail Fairview Rd. in Indian Trail. At other times the family will be gathering at the home of her son and daughter-in-law Jerrell and Judy Helms, 3358 Roberta Rd. in Concord.

She is survived by her son, Jerrell Helms and wife Judy of Concord; daughters, Marsha Helms Fister and husband Robert of Murrells Inlet, SC, and Cindy Helms Faggart and husband RD of Concord; grandchildren, Kim Plott and husband Todd, Matt Helms and wife Mandy, Misty Freeman and husband Jason, Jennifer Faggart Lefler and husband Larry, Ryan Faggart and wife Stacy, McRorie Faggart, and Evan Faggart; great-grandchildren, Hailey Plott Flynn, Tyler Plott, Haley Helms, Maddie and Koti Helms, Haydon Freeman, Mya Garmon, Jackson Lefler, Mason Faggart, Kayley Faggart, and Lillian Faggart; and great great-grandson, James Flynn.

Chloe was a gifted seamstress, and created beautiful needle work and quilts. She was an avid gardener, and grew beautiful flowers.
