Mary “Ruth†Hill Jenkins, 72, of Concord, died peacefully on Sunday, February 5, 2012, surrounded by her family after many years of declining health and a month of serious illness. She was born on July 26, 1939 in Charlotte to the late Ambrose Jefferson Hill and the late Naomi Yandall Hill. She moved to Concord in 1968. She worked in the Student Accounts department at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte where she retired in 2002. She enjoyed music and movies all of her life, and as a girl, sang on the Young American Club radio show in Charlotte. She graduated with honors from Harding High School in Charlotte where she played the cornet in the marching band. She loved to camp with family and friends and had a contagious laugh that she shared daily with many friends who met weekdays for lunch at Troutman's. She enjoyed needlework in her leisure-time and shared this gift with many on special occasions. She was a member of Bayless Memorial Presbyterian Church in Concord. Mrs. Jenkins is survived by her devoted husband of 53 years, Carson “Paul†Jenkins of the home; a daughter, Marsha Jenkins Greene and son-in-law, Randall "Randy" Keith Greene, two grandsons, Brendan Keith Greene and Kevin James Greene, and a future grand-daughter-in-law, Meghan Rose McBride all of Midland; a sister, Nancy Lee Hill of Charlotte; two brothers, James “Jim†Ransom Hill of Fort Mill, SC and William “Bill†Ross Hill of Charlotte; and many nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved very much. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 9, 2012, from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. The memorial service, officiated by Rev. Tom Smith, will be held following visitation on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in the Hartsell Funeral Home chapel. At other times the family will meet at the home of daughter, Marsha. The family suggests memorials be made to Hospice of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081. Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord is serving the Jenkins family.
