Mary Hazel Kindley Kizer, 78 years of age, of Charlotte, passed away Friday, March 9, 2012 at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte. Mrs. Kizer was born August 30, 1933 in Union County to the late Ovey Roy Kindley, who passed away February 23, 2012 and Ella Melissa Clontz Kindley who passed away in 1995. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Jay Doyce Kizer, in 2008. Mary had been a member of Hickory Grove United Methodist Church for 53 years. She was a member of the Cokesbury Sunday School Class and the United Methodist Women. She served in many leadership roles there as well as in the Charlotte District and Western North Carolina Conference. Her United Methodist Women service included Conference Treasurer 1990-1993, Chair of Nominations for the Southeastern Jurisdiction UMW from 1996-2000 and Conference President from 2002-2005. She always considered it a privilege to serve God and served wherever she felt her call in life. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m., Sunday, March 11, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Monday, with a 30 minute state prior to the service, at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church of Charlotte. Rev. Arnie Corriher will officiate and burial will follow in Charlotte Memorial Gardens. Survivors include her son, Milton Jay Kizer and his wife, Lynda, of Charlotte; her daughter, Anne Kizer Lalama of Charlotte; grandsons, Payton and Weston Kizer and Tony Lalama; her brothers, Robert A. Kindley and his wife, Elsie, and Grady Kindley; and her sisters, Virginia Braswell and her husband, Bengie, Faye Broadway and her husband, Charles, and Dean Kindley.
