Mary Merritt

Mary Jane Merritt, 78, of Concord, NC passed away Saturday, February 20, 2021 at Atrium Health Cabarrus in Concord.

Mary Jane was born October 27, 1942 in Memphis, TN to the late Olin Cook and the late Lena Cook. She was also preceded in death by sister, Paula Wilkins; and brother, John Cook.

Mary Jane spent her formative years in Memphis, TN, developing a love for all things Elvis Presley, until she relocated to Welcome, NC in 1974. She worked at WBUY, WLXN and other radio stations on and off until 2010.  When she wasn’t dedicating time to her family and friends she proudly routed for the NC State Wolfpack, Carolina Panthers and Washington Redskins. Mary Jane was a devout Christian and a member of First Baptist Church in Welcome.

Survivors include her daughter, Sandra Capps and husband Bill; son, Jason Merritt and wife Raquel; granddaughter, Lucia; and grandson, Holden; as well as several nieces and nephews.

The family will plan a memorial service to honor Mary Jane's life at a later date.
