Mary Nash

September 30, 1930 — May 30, 2017

Mary Evelyn Nash, 86 years of age, of Monroe, passed away Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at her daughter's residence.

Evelyn was born September 30, 1930 in North Carolina to the late Noah Rushing and the late Nancy Jane Rushing. She was also preceded in death by husband, Harold Marsh Nash; daughters, Denise Nash Tucker, and Sandra Nash Price; and brother, Aubrey Rushing.

Evelyn and her husband Harold raised chickens for almost 50 years. However, her true passion was driving a school bus for 26 years. She introduced middle-aged adults as "kids" who rode her bus and even remembered where they sat.

Evelyn's kitchen brought family and friends together. Whether it was egg custards, chocolate pies, or chicken and dumplings (real-not fake). Evelyn would make the happy times happier and the sad times more bearable with her cooking.

Evelyn had a mischievous sense of humor and loved to pick on people. She would make a joke and then bounce from laughing so hard. Basketball was the only subject off-limits: Go Tar Heels!

Survivors include daughter, Wanda Nash Brooks of Monroe; son-in-law, Rick Tucker of Monroe; four grandchildren, Amy Byrum of Monroe, Dee Dee (George Rodriguez) Jordan of Charlotte, Aaron (Kristen) Byrum of Indian Trail and Leigha Jordan of Greensboro; four great grandchildren, Savannah Shepler and Alec Shepler of Greensboro, and Harbor Byrum and Nash Byrum of Indian Trail; and her faithful four legged companion, Holly the chihuahua.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm, Sunday, June 4, 2017 at Mill Creek Baptist Church. The funeral service will be on Sunday at 3:00 pm at Mill Creek Baptist Church in Monroe officiated by Rev. Gary Hunsucker and Rev. George Hunnicutt. Burial will follow at the Lakeland Memorial Park, 1901 Lancaster Ave., Monroe.

Memorials may be made to Mill Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, 5417 Morgan Mill Road, Monroe NC 28110 or to Novant Health, Hospice & Palliative Care, PO Box 33549, Charlotte, NC 28233.
