Mary Porter

Mary Ella Dorton Porter, 90, of Concord, passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at the Brian Center in Concord. Mrs. Porter was born February 10, 1923 in Waynesville, NC to Robert L. Dorton and Ila Mae Clay Dorton who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by by her husband, Crawford W. Porter and two sisters, Phyllis Arrowood and Minnie Hinson. She was a 1941 graduate of W.R. Odell High School. Mrs. Porter worked in textiles at Kayser-Roth Hosiery Mill for 30 years and retired as a supervisor at Chic Hosiery Mill. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, canning, and camping. Mary was a member of McGill Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 2 pm until 4 pm Friday, December 6, 2013 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord. The funeral service will follow at 4 pm in the Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Steve Ayers officiating . Burial will be at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis. She is survived by her son, R.L. "Sonny" Porter (Pat) of Concord; grandsons, Randy Porter (Nancy) of Concord;granddaughter, Robbi Porter (Mary) of Charlotte; great-granddaughter, Mandy Hall (Michael) of Cornelius; great-grandsons, Jacob Porter of Fresno, California, and Matthew Porter of Morganton; sister, Lula "Lukie" Cochran of Concord; and three nephews and one niece .
