Mary Elizabeth Hedrick Talbert Arey, 95, of Albemarle, passed away Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Bethany Woods Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Albemarle.
Mary was born May 27, 1926 to the late W.O. and Katie Walker Hedrick.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Donald Martin Talbert, Sr. and Mickey Carrol Arey; and two brothers, Charlie Hedrick and Harlan Hedrick.
Survivors include her son, Donald Martin Talbert, Jr.; niece, Michele Hedrick; brother, James Edward Hedrick; three granddaughters; six great-granddaughters; two stepdaughters, Laura Arey and Peggy Furr (Mike); one step-granddaughter; two twin step-grandsons, and many nieces (two special) and nephews.
Mary attended Wiscassett and Albemarle High School. She was married to Donald Martin Talbert and they were blessed with one son, Donald Martin Talbert, Jr.. When he was two years old they moved to Delray Beach, Fl. where they lived for 34 years.
Mary was employed by Francis Brewster as a sales associate for resort wear, designed exclusively for Francis Brewster, the leading shop in Delray Beach, Fl. This was a seasonal shop so summer months were free allowing her the privilege to travel. She visited seven countries in Europe; the British Isles, England, Ireland, Scotland and also went on 17 cruises including Alaska and Hawaii. In 1984 she was privileged to visit the Holy Land and Egypt and walked where Jesus walked and entered the empty tomb where Jesus laid.
Mary was a member of First Baptist Church in Delray Beach, Fl. for 34 years. In 1990 she took an early retirement and moved back to Albemarle, NC to care for her sick husband. When she returned she joined Congregational Christian Church, which she loved to sing in the choir as long as she was able. She was a devoted Christian and loved her church.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 am - 11:00 am, Thursday, February 3, 2022 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. The funeral service will be at 11:00 am officiated by Rev. Don Burleyson. Burial will follow at the Stanly Gardens of Memory, 2001 East Main St., Albemarle.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Congregational Christian Church, 1119 Carolina Ave., Albemarle, NC 28001
