Mary Young

Mary Virginia Gatlin Young, 89 years of age, passed away Saturday, August 4, 2012 at her home in Stanfield. Mrs. Young was born May 10, 1923 in Wapanucka, Oklahoma to the late Nathan Boone and Mary Elizabeth Vernon Gatlin. She was also preceded in death by a son, Michael Eugene Young, Sr.; two brothers and six sisters. She was a telephone operator for Pacific Telephone for many years. The family will receive friends from 3 – 4 p.m., Tuesday, August 7, at Love’s Grove United Methodist Church, 4360 Polk Ford Road in Stanfield where she was a member. The funeral service will begin at 4 p.m. in the sanctuary officiated by Rev. Jim White. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. At other times, the family will meet at her home. Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Charles Manning Young, Sr., of the home; her son, Charles Young, Jr. and his wife, Shirley, of Gastonia; her daughters, Mary Bingham of Indian Trail and Waynita Butler of Scottsdale, Arizona; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Stanly County, 960 N. First St., Albemarle, NC 28001. Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland is serving the Young family.
