Masarah Whitley

Masarah "Mus" Adam Whitley, 78, of Oakboro, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Woodhaven Court in Albemarle.
Mus was born July 22, 1938 in Oakboro at the family homeplace to the late Martin Benjamin Whitley and the late Emma Cozetta Helms Whitley. He was also preceded in death by son, Lloyd Benjamin Whitley; sister Clara Mae Whitley Curlee; and brother, Kenneth Cleveland Whitley.
The family will receive friends from 2 pm - 4 pm on Monday, March 27, 2017 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. The funeral service to celebrate his life will follow at 4 pm in Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel, officiated by Rev. Phillip Smith and Rev. Tab Whitley. The burial will be at Smith Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Highway 138, Oakboro. He will lie in state from 3 pm - 6 pm on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle.
He is survived by his son, Tracy Adam Whitley of Oakboro; daughter, Stacy (David) Whitley Talley of Albemarle; grandchildren, Lauren (Tom) Talley Kuell, Seth Martin (Sami) Whitley, Emily (Lee) Talley Cross, Samantha Claire Talley; great-grandchildren, Talley Rae Kuell, David Wetzel Cross, Natalee Belle Cross; brothers, Cletus "Pete" (Lynette) Whitley; Roy (Sylvia) Whitley; Keith (Frances) Whitley; and sister Judy Whitley Helms; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mus was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He worked as a brickmason, retiring from Charlotte Plastics after many years of dedicated service. Mus loved spending time with his grandchildren, and enjoyed being their school bus. He enjoyed saw milling and wood working. Mus also loved gardening and mowing for Smith Grove PBC and hanging out at Quik Chek.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Woodhaven Court for the love and care you gave our dad over the past two years.
