Maureen Davis

November 4, 1926 — October 15, 2017

Maureen Constance Steele Davis of Locust, passed away Sunday, October 15, 2017 at her home.

Maureen was born on November 4, 1926 in Sheffield, England.

Memories of her early years were of happy family times celebrating special events with her large family of aunts, uncles and cousins. During her early teen years, Great Britain came under attack from German bombers and she had horrible memories of bombs falling around her home and the city of Sheffield, long lines for food and rations, and sacrifices made by all the British people. Those teen years also were fun for Maureen as she learned to dance the jitterbug and met lots of soldiers and sailors from all the Allied Countries. One young American GI caught her eye and at the age of 18, Maureen was married to John Curtis Davis of Fayetteville, NC. Maureen gave up her family, her country and all that was dear to her to move to the United States to be with her husband. Together, they had five children and were married for over fifty years.

Maureen loved her children and grandchildren more than anything else in the world. She is survived by her three daughters, Carole Ann Davis of Midland, NC, Susan Marie Davis of Locust, NC, and Eileen Patricia Davis of Cairo, GA; three grandchildren, Lisa Brock McCanna of Concord, NC, Patricia Griffin Kelso of Spanish Fort, AL, and John Edward Griffin of Baton Rouge, LA; and four great-grandchildren, Ethan David McCanna, USMC, stationed in Okinawa, Sara Jessica McCanna of Concord, NC, Bradly Joseph Kelso of Spanish Fort, AL, and Cameron Hornbuckle of Valdosta, GA. Maureen was also mother to her two sons who predeceased her by several years, Terrance Curtis Davis and David Wayne Davis.

A Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Maureen will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland. The family will receive friends 45 minutes prior to the service.
