Mavis Fountain

Mavis Mee Fountain, 85, of Concord, passed away Saturday, October 13, 2018.

Mavis was born December 14, 1932 in Derbyshire, England, to the late Lawrence and Florence Mee.  She was also preceded in death by beloved son, Wayne Fountain.

She was lovingly raised in Long Eaton, England.  Mavis worked as a conductress for Barton Buses.  She also worked as a sales assistant at Boots Chemist.  She liked working as a bus aide for the Duval County School System in Jacksonville, Florida.  She was a charter member of the Union Jack Club in Valdosta, GA.  She was an avid wine collector.  She enjoyed eating out and going to the pubs.  Mavis was a devoted fan of Jeff "My Jeffie" Gordon and loved being a member of the Jeff Gordon fan and wine clubs.  In 2009, she left Florida with her son, Daniel, to be closer to the racing excitement in Charlotte and the more than 200 NC wineries.  One of the highlights of Mavis' life was meeting Jeff Gordon at the NASCAR Hall of Fame and having him sign her 2011 Jeff Gordon Cellars Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir.

Survivors include daughter, Lesley Welch of Valdosta, GA; son, Daniel Fountain of Charlotte, NC; daughter, Kim Garvin and husband, Eddie, of Valdosta, GA; eight grandchildren, Michelle, Jennifer, Shannon, Casey, Candie, Wayne Jr, Trey, and Lindsey; eleven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

The memorial service to celebrate Mavis' life will be 11:00 am, Friday, October 19, 2018 at Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel of Harrisburg, NC, officiated by Chaplain Rick Felts.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 am - 10:45 am, prior to the service at the funeral home.
