Maxine Phillips

Maxine Benfield Phillips, 97 years of age, of Concord, passed away Saturday, October 28, 2017 at Genesis Elder Care Salisbury Center in Salisbury.

Mrs. Phillips was born May 10, 1920 to the late Everette and Margaret Benfield. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by husband, Calvin Emmett Phillips; son, Calvin Everett Phillips; brothers, Everett "Son" Benfield, Woodrow "Woody" Benfield, Glenn Benfield; sisters, Stella Myers, Teresa "Dink" Harrison, Zana Gabriel.

Maxine was a 1938 graduate of Hartsell High School. She was involved in many community activities over the years, which people may know her by. Maxine delivered meals for Meals on Wheels for 25 years, was extensively involved in the Cabarrus County Senior Center for at least as long, and was always found helping other people in any way that she could.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 pm, Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord. The funeral mass will be held on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at 11:00 am at St. James The Greater Catholic Church, 139 Manor Ave SouthEast, Concord, officiated by Father Jerome. Burial will follow at the Carolina Memorial Park Kannapolis at Hwy. 29N at I85, Exit 58, Kannapolis.

Survivors include: son, Michael "Mike" Phillips of Concord; daughter, Lynn and husband Bob Bonkosky of High Rock Lake; grandchildren, Kim and husband Todd Plott, Ben Bonkosky; great-grandchildren, Hailey P. Flynn, Tyler Plott; great-great grandchildren, James Flynn and Olivia Flynn and brothers, Joe Benfield of Concord, Bob Benfield of Mt. Pleasant.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. James The Greater Catholic Church, 139 Manor Ave. Concord, NC. 28025
