Maybelle Gilbert

Maybelle Tucker Gilbert, age 88, formerly of 384 Smith Grove Road, Oakboro, passed away on January 12, 2010 at Charlotte Healthcare in Charlotte. Born in Stanly County, NC on May 23, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Millard Thomas Tucker and Minnie Frankie Burris Tucker Simpson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Joe Avery Smith and a sister, Frances Ward. She is survived by her son, Avery Smith and wife Vickie of Oakboro; daughters, Peggy Jo Burris and husband John of Red Cross and Shelby Jean Eudy and husband Bob of Oakboro; brother, Tommy Tucker; and sisters, Pearl Dick, Carrie Walker, Violet Hinson, Christine McCall and Hazel Helms. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, quilting and picking and shelling pecans. The family will receive friends Thursday, January 14 at Bethel Baptist Church from 10 to 11. Funeral will follow at the church at 11 am. Granddaughter, Rev. Angela Burris and Rev. Charles Littlejohn will officiate and the burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Alzheimers Association, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215.
