Melissa Covington

Melissa Ann Covington, 84 years of age, of Charlotte, passed away Saturday, February 14, 2015 at Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville.

Ms. Covington was born January 3, 1931 in Cabarrus County, NC to the late Norman B. Covington and the late Eula Cochran Covington. She was also preceded in death by her sister Betty Penninger.

Survivors include her daughters, Jackie Ann Ford and husband Perry, and Eva Luanne Lawrence and husband Steve; and son James Shaver, Jr.; as well as sisters Rachel Barnette and Alice Wike; grandchildren Lesley Davis and husband Robbie, Sonya Nettles and Mark Ford, Amanda Miller and husband Benjamin; great grandchildren Joey, Caitlyn, Gavin, Keeley, Ethan and Jacob; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Melissa enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. She truly loved and cared for her family and friends. She had a witty sense of humor and was loved by many.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm, Monday, February 16, 2015 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 pm at Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel of Concord; officiated by Rev. Steve Pennington. Burial will follow at the Carolina Memorial Park in Harrisburg.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Concord, P.O. Box 5347, Concord, NC 28027.

The family will gather with friends following the burial at the home of daughter, Luanne Lawrence 1734 Ridge Rd, Charlotte, NC 28262.
