Melissa “Mary Lee†Rushing Medlin, 88, of Monroe, passed away Saturday, November 12, 2011 at Lawyers Glen Assisted Living Center of Charlotte. Mary Lee was born May 10, 1923 in Union County to the late Vance Fanander Rushing and Mary Gertrude Simpson Rushing. Mary Lee’s first public job was at Comar Industries in the early 1960s. She also worked at Scott Aviation (Tool Service) and retired in 1985 from Schrader Automotive. During her teenage years, Mary Lee joined Shiloh Advent Christian Church. She attended Longs’ Grove Advent Christian Church for a few years. She has been an active member at Shiloh since the early 1960s. She held the office of Sunday School Treasurer from 1988 to 2002 when her health forced her into a less active role. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, with a 30 minute state, at Shiloh Advent Christian Church of Monroe, officiated by Pastor Margaret Helms and Pastor John Gallagher. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Survivors include her son, Everette Medlin, and wife, Debbie, of Monroe; her daughters, Betty Tomberlin and husband, Garrett, and Shelia Philemon and husband, Douglas, all of Monroe; her brothers, Fanander Rushing and wife, Lucille, Raeford Rushing and wife, Mildred, J. Hue Rushing and wife, Belva, Norman Rushing and wife, Sara, Larry Rushing and wife, Carolyn; five grandchildren, Susan Tomberlin, Marlene Keziah, Marian Carlson, Drew Medlin, and Brett Medlin; and seven great-grandchildren.
