Melvin Carter

Melvin Mitchell Carter, 88, of Albemarle, NC, passed away Thursday, August 9, 2012 at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center in Elkin, NC. The funeral service will be Sunday, August 12, 2012 at 2:00 pm at Canton Baptist Church with a 30 minute state. Rev. Mark Mabry will officiate and the burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends after the service in the church fellowship hall. At other times, the family will meet at his home. Born November 5, 1923 in Stanly County, NC, he was the son of the late Walter Raleigh Carter and the late Waulena Lowder Carter. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Maxine Burleson Carter in 2009. He is survived by his son, Mickey Carter and wife Judy of Elkin; daughter, Judy Hearne and husband Lyndell of Hampstead; grandchildren, Amy Adkins and husband Sam, Christopher Carter and wife Blair, and Matthew Carter and wife Justine; great grandchildren, Ella, Benjamin, Mason and Jackson Carter; brothers, Kenneth Burleson and Don Burleson, both of Albemarle; sister Madge Huneycutt of Albemarle.
