Melvin Duncan, Sr.

Melvin Lewis Duncan, Sr., 73, of Charlotte, transitioned on Saturday, December 11, 2021.

Melvin was born July 14, 1948 in Birmingham, AL, the first-born child to the late Everline Duncan.

Melvin was a Vietnam Veteran of the United States Army.  During his military career, he was a boxer and a chef, as well as a paratrooper for the 8th Infantry, 82nd Airborne Division.  He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and EX M-14.  Music was a big part of Melvin's life.  Melvin could play the saxophone and loved to sing.  He was a member of the gospel group, "Transfiguration."  He was also a high-ranking Mason.  Melvin had a brilliant personality and never met a stranger.  He constantly sacrificed himself for his family.  He loved his sons more than he loved himself.  He will be forever remembered as a very loving and trusting daddy, Paw Paw, and brother.

He worked as a nuclear engineer for Duke Energy and was a member of New Living Word Discipleship and Worship Center in Waxhaw.  Most of all, Melvin will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather and brother.

Survivors include his son, Melvin Duncan, Jr. and wife, Bushra; youngest son, Brandon Lamar Duncan; and their mother, Arlenda Bell; grandchildren, Malaya Duncan, Imre Duncan, Empress Duncan, and another grandson due in March; sisters, Norma J. Duncan, Clodeen Johnson, and Barbara D. Wilson; brothers, Larry D. Duncan, Ravon S. Duncan, and James F. Lewis; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 9:00 am - 10:45 am, Saturday, December 18, 2021, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Harrisburg.  The funeral service with military honors will follow at 11:00 am in the funeral home chapel, officiated by Pastor Merv T. Massey. The service will also be webcast for those that may not be able to attend in person.
