Melvin Smith

Melvin James Smith, 88 years of age, of Oakboro, passed away Monday, May 16, 2016 at his home.

Mr. Smith was born August 23, 1927 to the late Sandy and Lula B Smith. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by wife, Dorothy Lee Smith and three infant sons. He was a very loving husband, father, and grandfather. Melvin enjoyed being outdoors mowing and was a dedicated grounds keeper to the church and many townspeople.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 3:00 pm, Thursday, May 19, 2016 at First Baptist Church of Oakboro. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm officiated by Rev. Dr. Terrell Watts. Burial will follow at the Oakboro Cemetery at 1397 North Main Street, Oakboro.

Survivors include: daughter, Lee Ann and husband Jim Brown; granddaughters, Leslie and husband James Bates, Abby and husband Cory Lawhon; grandson, Jamin and wife Janna Brown; and great-grandchildren, Hailey Bates, Hagen and Sadee Lawhon, Layla, Maverick and Phoebe Brown.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Oakboro.
